Multimedia Xpert can convert a DVD into a single video file, e.g. MP4 or AVI, relatively easily.

Initial state

There is a folder "VIDEO_TS" at the top of a DVD. This folder contains a number of files. We only need those with the .VOB extension. First open this folder in Windows and enter "*.VOB" in the field at the top right. As a result you will get a lot of files with names like "VTS_01_0.VOB". The two numbers after '_' count up.

Conversion

  1. Select all files in the Windows File Explorer and click on "Multimedia Xpert->Convert" on the right. Alternatively, you can also simply drag the files into the Multimedia Xpert Conversion tab.

  2. We can now remove all clips that have no real content and those for the menu navigation. To do this, press the Play button for each video and see what's inside. If your preferred video player cannot play the format, start the Play button by holding down the Alt key. Remove unnecessary videos from the list with the Remove button.

  3. Select the Output Specification at the bottom, e.g. 'Video H.264 Audio AC3' for MP4 and use the blue arrow next to it to briefly check whether it is ok.

  4. Start the conversion. After all are finished, we have the MP4 in the 'Processed Files' grid.

  5. Now copy all the rows of the processed files to the clipboard: Select the rows and right-click on a row header and select "Copy".

  6. Switch to the Turbo Concat tab

  7. Paste the copied rows: Clear the grid with the eraser button at the bottom right, then right-click inside the grid and select "Paste".

  8. Now we have to put the files in the correct order with ascending numbers. To do this, simply click on the header of the 'Path and Name' column and sort by name.

  9. Adjust the 'Output Path' field, e.g. setting the extension to “.mp4” or similar.

  10. Activate the checkbox 'Try Turbo Speed'. This must work now, as we have converted all parts to the same format above.

  11. Start the concatenation.

So let's recap: First we convert all *.VOB files to the target format. Then we join the converted files in the correct order and get our desired video.
