Version History =============== - V5.1: New: - New query of SubDL server added. Replaces Subscene which ended its service in 2024-05. - The bigger 'LanguageList.csv' of OpenSubtitles.com with about 103 languages is automatically installed if the old one is found in the app data. This means basically from all relevant servers on the world. - Many more parameters can be specified interactiveley for each server. For example the search results can be limited to a certain number which can result in a much quicker response. - The search order can be set individually - It was observed that the previously used Podnapisi API delivered less results than the Podnapisi website. So also the download from the website was added. Basically you could say Subtitler has now 4 more download sources. - The dialog 'Login Parameters' was renamed to 'Server Parameters' and contains now many more parameters. Especially useful is the possibility to throttle querys on each server. Servers don't allow to make many queries in quick succession. The current values are predefined but one can finetune them if necessary. - Number of supported languages increased to 125 - Icon for searching on TMDB (The Movie Database) - You can now configure your preferred text editor in the 'Application Settings' and then double-clicks on paths in the 'Log' panel will open the file in this editor rather than the default text editor. - Copy Progress: New end action "Switch RemoteSubz On" - File exists dialog: You can now modify the destination name to evade an overwrite - Menu "Subtitles->Select Subtitles->" to quickly select one language, copy them to the main subtitles and prepare them - Title also recognizes something like "Third Season" - New option "Pause during Transfer" in the RemoteSubz settings. Subtitles are no longer touched if this width is not exceeded. - The dialog with the Dreambox settings works now also for all the newer Dreambox models - Title extraction does only take the title up to the first season, episode or year specification. The rest is interpreted as the episode title and only used for a server search. - Title fields support the 'Undo' function after being set by the title extraction - More precise function to determine title similarity - Movie DB searches: Without title they will open the main website - Podpnapisi downloads updated: - Search by Hash code is now also possible, even without title, no warning anymore. But not many have a hash in the DB. - Using https instead of http - Comment column is showing the 'Release' - When search by hash is on and no hash matched a message in the Log will indicate that - Years will be taxed by their distance to the searched one - If a subtitle file is in UTF-16 or similar the rule in the 'Subtitle Languages' dialog is bypassed and no conversion of the content is done. - RemoteSubz: - If there are subtitles or *.cuts files to a renamed video but none to the original name it will be assumed that it was renamed together with the original and renamed back also. - File copy operations do not display ask boxes - If a rename fails the two pathNames are displayed - If a UTF-8 subtitle file contains incorrectly converted special characters like '♪' they will be repaired - Retrying if the error "Can't delete RemoteSubz file because in use by another process" occurs - Swifter abort times during the search for subtitles - Passwords for the subtitle servers are stored encrypted Corrections: - Second episode specification in title removed - Change counter gets incremented if changes are made on the timestamps of a subtitle - DB searches don't put -1 as year - Dotted word handling - Processing of DOS style arguments - Dispose of progress dialogs when the MainWindow is closed - V4.3: New: - Function "Subtitles->Open Main Subtitles" - Button and Function "Movie->Delete last word of 'Title'" - Copy dialog: New button to hand files over to Mighty Desktop - Copy Progress: - Duration is displayed too - Explorer button can also show the source - Function "Remove Apostrohpes" was improved to "Replace Apostrophes". More in 'ReadMe.rtf'. - RemoteSubz waits 5 seconds at program launch before it starts - The detection of whether a movie has already been seen has been improved. It can now also add seasons for entries in the form "S01-S02" and now also recognizes movie numbers like "1-3" and year differences. In case of an error the entry is in the message. - Wrapping subtitles respects new paragraphs that begin with "- " or "— " and also a possible BPH (Break allowed here) character - Avoiding .NET exceptions if a string gets formatted - Paths written with localized names are recognized as equal to the neutral ones - Copy dialog: Drive size of UNC drive can also be displayed Corrections: - Rename to Title: If season or episode is specified in the dialog but not on the files it will append them - Log indent is set back on an exception in more cases - Installation and Uninstallation. By default only a Windows Desktop restart is done (as before version 4.1). There were rare cases seen where a restart of the computer was necessary. Hold [Ctrl][Shift] during the uninstall to do a computer restart instead of just a Windows Desktop restart. If the uninstall of a previous versions fails you can still use Microsoft's program https://aka.ms/Program_Install_and_Uninstall - V4.1: New: - RemoteSubz: You can now convert videos with the prefix "CV ". With this function you can just let Subtitler rename such files either manually or automatically. - NEW! The function "File->Trash Orphans" was added to directly move all orphaned files in the folder and its subfolders to the trash. Orphaned files are those files that are not besides their main file, for example subtitles that are missing their video. In file mode the folder of the file is the start folder. The copy progress dialog has now a new option 'Mighty Shutdown' and RemoteSubz™ can also do a Mighty Shutdown. - NEW! In all the list boxes with files that can be obtained on the main dialog a delete function resp. key is added. For example you can use this to delete one of the language specific subtitle files. - NEW: A new menu function "Trash Unwanted Languages" is added to quickly remove any languages that are not present in the preferred languages under 'Settings'. Read-only flags will be ignored. - At reading of an srt file: - Detection of a missing entry number (common mistake) and automatic insertion - Mistyped arrow "->" and "--->" will automatically be corrected to "-->". This allows now to use the root of a drive without any problems and still upholding the speed on network drives. - The 3 file lists in the main dialog are now updated in the background. A refresh symbol will appear right of the link buttons to indicate that. It's now much faster and at the same time eliminates the long delays that could have occurred if you entered a slow server drive in the 'File or Folder' box. This was also delaying subtitler's startup time. - In the Log: - Shows now at each download if the hash matched. So you will see immediately if the timing is perfect and shift isn't necessary. - Errors are colored red, Warnings orange to make them better visible - Multiple lines can be selected now and the 'Copy' function will copy them into the clipboard - This version is based on .NET Framework 4.6.1. If your computer doesn't have this yet you will be redirected to a download page. - Replacements in filenames: - Dots in numbered files like "01. Xxxx" are not replaced anymore - The list of done replacements is saved at the end of the application and reloaded at the next start. You can now undo even after the program was closed. - Before the action is performed for the first time a question will appear whether you wish to activate the feature or not. - Drive root support: It's now possible to select a drive's root of a Windows drive. There is a nasty misfit in the filesystem that a user can't walk through all files without getting exceptions. Now this is circumvented and it works now, but as a result the enumeration will be a litte bit slower. Sorry, not my fault. - The font of the log window was changed because the previous one was not correctly calculating the height on monitors with other DPI. - Shifting subtitles: Search words are now more normalized before searching. For example the german 'ß' will be treated as matching "ss". - Some menu functions that trash files have now the possibility to see the found files first and say yes or no. - All functions working on a bunch of videos are now abortable Corrections: - App always starting up correctly directly after installing an update - Deleting temporary files in case of server errors - Some functions that should also exclude files in 'Subtitle Backup' directory now do - Tooltip on Download button showing "Aborts the process" sometimes - Bug in normalization - Other minor corrections - V2.3: Improvements: - Replacement of dots more restrictive when to be done Corrections: - Default value for Encoding combobox corrected a second time. Some strange bugs in .NET WinForms Combobox could make it empty. - Robustness further increased. More exceptions are handled that could possibly occur. - V2.2: Improvements: - NEW! The subtitle format 'MicroDVD' (Format "{from}{to}text|text" with extension .sub) is now supported too. It is automatically converted to SubRip. A line in the log will inform of that. Instructions like bold and italic format are interpreted. Other instructions are ignored. - IMPORTANT! Subtitler will now find more subtitles on some videos! There was a strange behavior of OpenSubtitles server: If a search was done by hash and by title in one multiquery the results were LESS than by two separate queries (contradiction)! Subtitler now always performs two separate queries. - The automatic selection process to find the best download was improved in regard to title, season and year - Augmented recognition rate of the title extraction algorithm - Notations like "#12" in the video name are now recognized as episode numbers - In the dialog to select subtitle files to download, a new column 'Subtitle Hash' was added which shows an identifying number of the uploaded subtitle file. This is only available from the OpenSubtitles server. It can be used to see whether two entries in the list actually denote the same file. Another improvement is that the [Enter] key now works too if the focus is inside the grid. - Disconnected remote drives (network drives and others) are now tried to reconnect automatically if a path is entered in a box. - Replacement of points to blanks now preserves known properties as "AAC2.0" and extensions like ".cuts" - Replacement of points to blanks now removes possible blanks at the start and end of the pure file name. - Window extents in restored state are now saved even if the application is closed in minimized or maximized state - A possible read only attribute of a language specific subtitle file is removed if it is copied over to the main file. This avoids errors if processed. - Recognition list of known advertisings extended - Some buttons at the bottom are now painted in the same color at that of the following mask to enhance recognizability - Restore subtitle files in Prepare dialog now shows the count of files and also the count of the failed ones Corrections: - Shift differences in text mode are only put over to the difference boxes if [Apply] is pressed. Also, they are now the intended differences on the boundaries and not just the differences of the subtitles. - Errors during title extraction are caught and reported - Wrong positions of Season/Episode normalization for rare cases corrected - Wrong renaming of dots in rare cases corrected - Internal file lists update correctly now at the end of 'Undo Last Renames' - Selected values of comboboxes saved manually because the automatism of .NET doesn't work at all times - Some other small corrections - V2.1: Improvements: - Extended Support for invalid character sets in subtitle files: If files with mixed character encodings are encountered, which means that they contain Western CodePage 1252 characters >=128 and also Unicode characters, then the ASCII characters are automatically converted to Unicode. This avoids seeing strange characters in the subtitles. - Main Dialog: - Pressing Ctrl at at drag and drop of a video into the box avoids the automatic renaming if this is activated in the application preferences - Prepare Dialog: - Shifting of a whole series is now possible: You can specify shift distances the same way as on the main dialog. With the left arrow you can directly insert the values from the 'Shift' dialog, and also clear them with the eraser button. - Double clicking a file will open it in the default editor - Files are now checked for existence before preparing - Shift Dialog: - In the panel "By entering subtitles" the shift differences are now immediately calculated and put over to the panel "By entering time differences". So you can use the same values more easily, for example to shift the next episode of the same series. - Log now shows also the shifting distances so you can find it later on if you have to do another shift. - Edit Player Profile dialog has now icons for Add and Delete button - Function "File->Scan for Defects" can now be aborted the same way as a download - Rename functions: - now they treat also subfolder names, not only file names in subfolders - can now rename different character cases too (eg. s01e02 -> S01E02), on any kind of file system - errors will also be counted and displayed in the log - Function "Normalize Season & Episode": Brackets "[..]" around season and/or episode will now be removed too - Settings->Application gives now also the option to automatically normalize the season and episode part inside a filename when the file or folder is chosen - Blinking of the 'File or Folder' field BEFORE the items are processed for better feedback. - In folder mode subtitles in the directory 'Subtitle Backup' will be ignored also in the info below the 'File or Folder' field - Explore buttons now include an icon for easier identification - Key [F5] now refreshes the infos on the main dialog Bug corrections: - The copy progress dialog now quits resp. suspends the application correctly. It's also waiting to complete all operations if multiple operations and or downloads are running. - Edit Player Profile could demand a profile name for the new profile in rare cases - In the case of encoding set to "Leave alone" a guess is made to load the subtitles instead of just assuming UTF-8 - Premature closing of the main dialog when started directly from Setup.exe corrected - Crashes during the prepare operation are caught and reported to the user - V2.0: Improvements: - Using a new, more intelligent comparison algorithm to decide which subtitles are best - Only one click to download from multiple servers. Results are merged in a union list. - You have now new functions in Windows Explorer in the right click menu of every video to directly do something with Atlas Subtitler. - Main dialog: - File/Folder open button now automatically does the title extraction too except the [Alt] key is pressed - .NET Framework's "Browse for Folder" dialog bugs corrected. Adapted so that it brings the initial folder into the view. Tricky low level programming. - During the download of multiple subtitles: - The separator line changes to a progress bar - Sample videos in the folder are automatically skipped - In Hash mode the season and episode extracted from the file name are checked against the returned data because the hash code is not enough unique sometimes and a wrong season or episode is returned with the same hash. - The season and episode extracted from the file name are added to the log line of the downloaded file so it can be checked visually - In title search mode I discovered that videos with extremely different names are returned from server queries. Subtitler now makes it's own "similar title" check to see whether the returned title is really what was searched for. This reduces false returns. - All found subtitle files are put in a list first BEFORE they are downloaded. The list will be sorted according to Subtitler's "usefulness" criteria. The user can then manually pick one per language if he wishes so. It's also possible to have this dialog only if more than one file was found. - The test whether a file is already present is made before searching the servers. This will reduce search and download times greatly. - The downloaded file is now analyzed structurally and many common errors will will automatically be corrected. This improves the compatibility of the file with the video player. You can see what was done in the log. Also, if the file is not a correct srt file an error message will appear in the log. The analysis of the file is also the basis for several new processings described below. - Switching to the largest video in a folder when switching from folder to file mode by holding [Alt] - Switching from the file mode to the folder mode now offers the new possibility to enter the parent folder by holding [Alt] - Double clicking on File or Folder radio button switches and also opens the browsing dialog - New label "Videos: " below "File or Folder" which shows the found videos - Double clicking on an entry in a file list window opens this item - Log-Window keeps its content over the ending of the app so the result of the copy operation can be seen at the next start - Clear function added to popup menu of Log-Window - Found title's name will be displayed on Podnapisi search too - Title and Episode extraction: - The terms "EP01" and "Ep 1" (case irrelevant) are also recognized - "(..)" and "[..]" are better treated - the notation "S1E2" is also recognized - "0n" (n=digit) not treated as episode indicator anymore, was too common in dates - more tags are recognized - Log window has popup menu with function to copy out one line - NEW! Downloaded subtitle files are now read and can be prepared (processed) to suit the media player of your choice. - Simple errors like wrong entry numbers and several others things confusing some video players are automatically corrected (renumbering, removing empty entries, correcting invalid time stamps aso.). You will also immediately see if a subtitle file contains only garbage (yes, it can happen, but only very very rare). - The properties of a player can be specified in a player profile. The processing can then just be specified by choosing one of the player profiles. A profile can specify the following: - Passages in square or round brackets are intended for hearing impaired people. Well hearing people are only disturbed with subtitles like "[telephone ringing]". They can be removed with just ticking a checkbox. - Embedded font directives may be good for players like VLC but simple players like the Dreambox GStreamer Plugin can't understand them and does just display them as text. They can be removed too with just a click. - The same as for embedded fonts go for bold and italic directives. Simple players can't process them, some can only process them at the start and end of the subtitle. The problem can be fixed easily now by ticking a checkbox. - A replace option for making the sharp ß to a double s (more common outside of Germany) - The encoding of the output can be changed (UTF-8 is the most compatible one) - Some players have different screen widths to display the subtitle text. To adapt to this, the text can be first concatenated to one long line and then re-wrapped at another maximum width. This will eliminate the sometimes seen subtitle lines with just one word on it. - NEW! Several new useful processings, those for the selected video in menu "File", those for the subtitle files in a new menu "Subtitles": - "File->Rename to Title" renames a video and its subtitle files and maybe also the folder name to the content of the 'Title' box - "File->Replace Dots and Underscores by Blanks" replaces any occurrences of '_' and '.' by a blank (the separating dot for extensions excluded naturally). The folder name is also treated if it's the same as the video name. You can choose to automatically do this at each file open by ticking a box in the application preferences. - "File->Normalize Season & Episode" replaces many rare used notations for the season and episode, eg. "Season 3 Episode 1", by the standard notation "S03E01". - "File->Place in its own Folder" creates a folder for the video in the same place and moves the video inside. The folder is called the same as the video. - "File->Take out of its own folder" moves the video up one folder and trashes the folder if is empty now. - "File->Trash Samples" finds sample videos and its corresponding subtitles and moves them to the trash can. - "File->Trash Advertisings" looks for common advertising files (Subtitler knows some of them) and moves them into the trash can. - "File->Scan for Defects" can be used to check whether a video has been damaged during the transport. This will inform you before watching whether you will experience some black outs later on. It will also try to find out, how long the blackouts will be in terms of percentage and also in film duration time. The idea is, if you see a blackout of 0.5 seconds it will be no problem but if the function reports 15 seconds you would be better off to try to transfer a fresh copy again. Actually the function checks how many blocks of a minimum length are filled with NULs (zeros). You can set this minimum length in the application preferences dialog. - The new function "Subtitles->Copy to Main" has the same functionality as the check box of the same name but does this manually for the selected videos. - The function "Undo Last Renames" renames back the last set of renames. An infinite number of undos is possible (just don't close Subtitler). - If you have a subfolder named "Subs" beside the video, this usually contains subtitle files for higher sophisticated players like VLC. Since this folder is not supported in lower level players you explore it with the function "Subtitles->Explorer Subs Folder" or get rid of it with "Subtitles->Trash Subs Folder". - The function "Subtitles->List Languages" produces a list of languages of the found subtitle files that are currently available - Settings: - In the "Subtitle Languages" dialog the list of codes is displayed and can be manipulated and also copied to the clipboard for usage in VLC - Window bounds just shift inside if outside the desktop bounds. Previously they were adapted which resized the windows. - Copy/Move: - NEW! Multiple copy/move operations can be performed at the same time now. Each copy progress dialog is an own task that you can send into the background. So you can continue downloading subtitles during the transfer. - The free space on the 'To' drive is displayed with a warning sign if not enough - Priority can be changed to different possibilities in the Copy Progress window - Logs every operation detailed into the Log view now. No need for a result box at the end anymore. - "File Exists Already" dialog shows now the length of the source and destination file and shows a red warning sign if different. This can help to decide whether a file was only copied partially by a 3rd party program. Subtitler itself was always aware of this problem and tried to avoid this. - A new button "Skip Same Length" was added to allow skipping only existing files with same length. Be aware that the content still could be different. - A log message occurs if a file that should be copied or moved has vanished in the meantime. - NEW! Shift Timing Dialog greatly improved. Now you can synchronize the subtitles in seconds: - Highly more efficient method to shift added: You can select or enter some words of a subtitle and the correct time when it should be displayed. After doing this the time difference will be calculated and the subtitles shifted. This method is usually much quicker and easier than the timing method with adding or subtracting some seconds. But this is still there as a second option. The new method automatically searches the first unique occurrence of a subtitle whereby skipping known comments or advertisings of the translating people. - The arrow symbol above the file input box lets you insert one of the subtitle files currently selected in the main dialog. You can select from a list box. - The shifting algorithm as a whole was revised and improved for higher precision - Nice stopwatch icons instead of the textual "Start Timer" buttons - It's possible to leave either of the shift fields empty now. Meaning: If a shift value is empty this means always "no shift". No correlation to the other fields is enforced anymore. - New eraser icon to clear some fields quickly - Enabling/disabling of some buttons added - NEW! Preparation of multiple subtitle files for a certain player added. You can now create profiles for your players in use (Function in the Settings menu). Use the button "Prepare" or the function "Subtitles->Prepare for Player..." to start this dialog. You can populate a list of filenames and then process all files in just one step ("A small step for me but ..."). When a file is copied to the main subtitle file it will also automatically be prepared for the video player you specify in the application preferences. You can specify many different types of processings in such a profile. - The list of filenames in several places is now always sorted. This helps for external file systems that don't sort the same way as humans would prefer (eg. case sensitive) - More samples are recognized in "Trash Samples" function - Read only flags on srt files are automatically handled if necessary. Either they are switched off or the user gets the offer to retry the operation. (S)He can then add privileges or switch off the read-only flag. - Shortcut keys added to many buttons (press [Alt] to see them) - [Alt] key on the right side treated the same as the left one everywhere - Additional icons in buttons - Much more logging in the log window and log file to better diagnose problems Corrections: - Carrying over of settings of previous version correctly now - Comparison of the video's publication year better - Field of "Estimated End" wider to support AM/PM notation - Bug circumvented in Microsoft's progress bar of the taskbar icon. It made the bar disappear randomly. - Bug circumvented that seems to stem from the driver for Linux drives (at least the one used for the Dreamboxes and maybe VU+ has it). Enumeration of files is so buggy that sometimes Subtitler couldn't find the video that would take the specified subtitle file on those systems. - Several other not so important fixes - V1.1: Improvements: - Copy history moves last used folders to the top - Taskbar icon shows progress also during downloading - File or Folder box checks whether the selected file really is a video - Play button in folder mode plays the largest movie file, not the first. So if you have some samples there they won't interfere. - Context sensitive help added (F1 key and question mark in the upper right corner of some dialogs that open a web page with explanations) Corrections: - Download of multiple episodes in a folder if done with OpenSubtitles.org corrected. Podnapisi was ok. - Label "File 1 of x" position corrected - Background of CopyProgess fields corrected - Copy button disabled during download - V1.0: Created by Andres Rohr, andres.rohr@atlas-informatik.ch, Certified Senior Software Engineer ETH, www.atlas-informatik.ch
